Lighting is a crucial aspect of any guest room's design, and its importance extends beyond just providing visibility. Proper lighting can significantly impact the mood, atmosphere, functionality, and overall aesthetics of a space. Here are some things we keep in mind when sourcing lighting.

Sizing

Choose a light fixture that complements the size of your bedside table and the overall scale of your guest bedroom. It’s tempting to purchase lighting online that is ultra-low cost, but you must check the total dimensions before clicking purchase. Often those lamps are undersized and not suitable as a bedside option. Similarly, an oversized lamp could overwhelm a small table. We like to stick to a standard height of 24" for this use.

For a trendy vibe, check out mounted sconce lamps. Don’t have the budget for an electrician? Select a corded fixture that plugs in. In addition to looking fun, it clears table space and is helpful for small spaces.

Multi-Purpose Lighting

Lamps are often placed in areas that serve multiple functions. If you are buying a lamp that sits on a desk, consider purchasing a light that has a built-in USB or power outlet. This will free up space on your desk and provide easy accessibility.

?What is The Lighting Goal

Determine the primary purpose of the lighting. Is it for reading,

ambient lighting, or a combination of both? We like floor lamps to anchor accent chairs in bedrooms. Floor lamps are also a good idea in living rooms to provide ambient lighting. You should always strive for 4 light sources in each room to create an interesting balance.

Style and Aesthetics

This is the time to hone in on your room’s vibe. If you are going coastal, select a pale blue or rattan lamp. Going mid-century? Now is the time to pick an exposed lightbulb or geometric lamp. Lean into vintage with tinted glass shades. Lighting will be the final touch you need to pull together a style.  Don’t be afraid!
